Our Guarantees

All Kitty Cottage cats are:

  • Current on Distemper vaccines
  • Current on their Rabies (if age appropriate)
  • Spayed or Neutered
  • Microchipped
  • Negative for FeLV/FIV (which are both contagious diseases in cats)
  • Treated prophylactically for internal and external parasites upon arrival
  • Given all necessary veterinary care while they are in our possession

We guarantee that we will give you as honest and thorough of a picture of the cat’s veterinary history, current state of health, and behavioral tendencies as we are able at time of adoption. At the time of adoption, you will get their veterinary records. You are welcome to request to view your cats record before applying to adopt, and we will answer any questions you have.

Adoption Process

Due to our unique set up as a cage-free shelter and because we value the safety of our staff, volunteers and animals, we are permanently operating by appointment only for approved applicants.

  • All applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. We will do our best to keep our available cats or kittens up-to-date, but please feel free to call and inquire about the status of any specific cat or kitten before applying.
  • All applications will be general and once approved, you may schedule an appointment to come in and meet the adoptable cats or kittens. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or may have been exposed, please do not come in.
  • If the Cottage does not have the right fit cat or kitten at the time of an applicant’s visit, the applicant will be considered first when new cats or kittens are brought into the cottage. The application will be considered approved for 6 months.
Adoption Policies

Our mission is to provide a safe, home-like environment where homeless cats can be connected with loving families within the community. We strive to create an environment that allows us (and prospective owners) to see how a cat might behave in a new home, noting personality aspects such as activity level, attitude around strangers, and comfort level with children and other cats. We strive to find appropriate, permanent homes for our residents, and we believe strongly that finding “the purrfect fit” is an integral part of responsible rehoming.

All prospective adopters will be asked to fill out an application which asks for references (including that of your existing or former veterinarian), information about the household and its residents, and questions about potential future life changes and your plan for how you would deal with those with your new feline companion. It also asks you to demonstrate in good faith that you have the lifestyle and financial stability required to guarantee one of our residents a safe, permanent home. You must be 25 years of age or older to apply for adoption.

To speed up the application process, please make sure your references and vet know to expect a call from us. You may also need to let your veterinary reference know that you give permission for Kitty Cottage to inquire with them about your pets’ veterinary history. We will reach out to you as soon as a decision has been made or if we have any questions.

In the event that an adopter for some reason absolutely cannot keep a cat adopted from us, and cannot find a loving home for the cat with another responsible person, we ask that you give us a call to discuss the possibility of returning the cat to us for re-adoption. Please also keep in mind that if a kitty does need to be returned to us for any reason, the normal surrender process and policies will apply.

Please note that applications are approved or denied entirely at our discretion.
